KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 11 — Football Malaysia Limited Liability Partnership (FMLLP) today said Media Prima has been awarded the broadcasting rights for the M-League until 2018.
FMLLP in a statement said Media Prima would start coverage of the M-League on Feb 13 by airing two live matches starting 9pm, namely the Charity Shield between Super League champion Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) and Malaysia Cup winners Selangor on TV3 and the Super League match between Perak and Kelantan on TV9.
According to the statement, fans can watch up to three live matches a week on free TV and simulcast online, Tonton.
Media Prima, which operates TV3, ntv7, 8TV and TV9, are expected to beam two ‘live’ Super League matches every week and also broadcast delayed telecasts of selected Premier League matches and the deal also includes FA Cup matches and Malaysia Cup matches.
The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) had earlier secured a lucrative 15-year deal worth RM1.26 billion, in a joint partnership with MP & Silva — a well-known international media rights company.
The FAM and MP & Silva later set up a company — Football Malaysia Limited Liability Partnership (FMLLP) — to manage the M-League.
Meanwhile, FAM secretary-general Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin thanked Media Prima for their support and contribution to local football.
Its chief executive officer for Media Prima Berhad Datuk Kamal Khalid said the organisation was always excited to provide quality coverage of local football.
MP & Silva had pledged to FAM a guaranteed annual sponsorship of RM70 million from 2016 to 2021, followed by RM85 million (2022-2024), RM92 million (2025-2027) and RM103 million (2028-2031), the sums are guaranteed investment for each season.
From the guaranteed amount of RM70 million for this year, 40 per cent will go to FAM, the principle owners of local football rights, 40 per cent to teams (encompassing guaranteed and merit allocations), 15 per cent to M-League operations and five per cent to development. — Bernama
